[ Personality ] :
Raine is commonly known as 'The Professor'. She's very intelligent and was even considered a prodigy when she was little. With this intelligence Raine does a lot of research as well as teaches. Throughout the years, she's focused on learning as much as she could despite having to travel due to being a half-elf. She loves to read and does research on anything she's curious about or finds interesting. Often she corrects others that are wrong, typically Lloyd or her Genis.
Being the calculative member of the bunch she calmly thinks things out rather than jump into the situation. Rather than thinking of what might happen right after a situation, she instead thinks of the long term effects will be. This sometimes makes her seem a bit heartless, when in actuality she's simply trying to avoid the long term effect of things. Raine speaks around most crowds formally much like if she's to give a speech. Around those she trusts more she'll relax and act less formal. She's a strong woman, though she does have her delicate points such as if something were to happen to any of her students or she can't save someone she wishes to save. She hates it when she can't save or help someone and (while depending on the situation) tries her hardest in order to do so.
While Raine is calm and collective and thinks rationally there is a time when she is quite the opposite. Put her with ruins or anything else that has historical value and she'll go into what the others have dubbed 'Ruin Mode'. She loses her normally calm composure and becomes far more energetic as she starts to obsessively explore or talk. This was due to the fact that she had been trying to find a ruin, but even after finding the ruin she still continues to have the same obsessive interest in ruins and archeology. In general, she becomes quickly fascinated by anything that catches her curiosity whether it be something scientific or something historical. When she's in Ruin Mode, or simply talking about historical facts/factual information in general you would not want to interrupt her. Though even if one tries chances are she'll continue to talk about what she is studying/lecturing about.
While Raine seems calm and collected she not impenetrable. There are times when she can have a temper though it's usually when someone thinks badly of her cooking or misbehaves. However, she's not brutal when it comes to punishment... unless you want to call a chalk or a kick to the wall brutal. One must also be careful not (try) to break anything of historical value, or else you will be faced with some kind of lecture and perhaps another form of punishment.
Due to the fact that Raine is a half-elf she was faced with discrimination before and after she was abandoned. She's cautious around people whom she first meets and might act a bit distrusting depending on the circumstances. This is another reason why she might be called a 'heartless' witch but frankly you can call her what you like. She's not going to care especially if she doesn't know/trust you. In the past, Raine would hide her true blood as she told others that she is of pure-elven blood. However, since then she has grown to be more proud of her half-elven heritage. However, much like many other half-elves Raine isn't fond of humans. She doesn't openly show any hatred for the race but she has difficulty trusting people. She's wary of people at first, even allowing it to get in the way of helping someone who's injured at times. Once Raine eventually trusts someone they become much more valuable to her at either a student, friend, companions, etc etc. Throughout her journey with Lloyd and everyone else Raine has started to be able to trust people a bit more easily, but will still be wary depending on the situation. Generally though if you respect Raine she'll respect you. If you don't respect her or give her reason to not trust you she won't. And finally, if you give her reason for her to trust you she will.
Raine also has a motherly/sisterly side to her from having to take care of her little brother from such a young age. She cares deeply for her students almost like they are her own children. Even if she might she a bit harsh and cold at times she praises them when they do something right or get an answer correct. She encourages them to work towards their goal and never hesitates to give them advice and province assistance. The Professor could even seem a bit protective at times as she tries to keep those close to her to not do anything rash or dangerous. In turn, Raine respects some people she trusts quite a bit. Just don't do anything to her students or you'll have an angry Professor on your hands.
In general, Raine is calm and calculative and might seem cold, but can be very delicate and motherly to those she cares about. She's obsessive over ruins and other forms of history and is to top it off is very intelligent and known to be a prodigy.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Strengths
Raine can use magic. Unlike her brother who is of the offensive type, Raine can use a range of supportive magic, such as Barrier (raises defense) and Sharpness (raises attack). She also has healing capabilities and a few light offensive spells. A full list of her spells can be seen here. The Advanced Spells won't be used often if not at all due to how much Mana it would take in order to preform them. Outside of battle Raine can perform a normal healing technique (simply heal without really being a move).
Despite her figure, Raine can actually pack a bit of a punch if need be. Not during actual battle, but Raine does have enough strength to kick someone Lloyd's size into a nearby wall. She also has a bit of arm strength, making her chalk throws quite dangerous.
She's quite good with technology (back home it was Magitechnology but with her intelligence it wouldn't be hard for her to figure out normal technology as well). Raine was able to break into several computer systems and bring up maps and other important information in order to help the group out on their journey. She was also able to get in and self-destruct several bases as well.
Weaknesses
She can't cook. She has a sense of curiosity when it comes to cooking and tends to put ingredients in that aren't supposed to be there and overall changes the taste. However, even without her curiosity in place she's a terrible cook. Not many can make a stew that it both burnt and raw at the same time after all! She also has a tendency to put lemons into most of her cooking.
According to her brother Genis, she also can't clean and do laundry. So don't allow her to do that either.
She has aquaphobia* (fear of water) due to having had fallen off a boat when she was little and almost drowned. She refuses to go into the water and when she's forced on a boat/anything that sails on the sea she starts to feel ill. This said Raine can't swim.
* Yes. The mun realizes that she is horrible for bringing in Raine with this in mind, but feels that it could allow for some nice CR.
[ Other Important Facts ] :
None I can think of.
[ Sample ] :
Take a deep breath and get a hold of yourself...
That is what Raine was thinking in her head as she looked around at her surroundings. The last thing she remembered was tucking her brother into the bed he was sleeping on before taking out a book and giving herself some time to read before the next day. It was going to be a big day: the day when her faithful student Lloyd was to face off against his own father Kratos. As she was reading she was thinking back over everything that had happened up until that night. How everything unraveled, finding the ruins that she had long been searching for as well as her mother Virginia. Soon, everything was going to be over. It was just a little longer.
At least that's what she thought last night. She had closed her book and went to sleep to give herself plenty of rest for the upcoming day... only to find herself awaking in surrounded in what she feared most: water.
Raine closed her eyes as she tried to remain calm and keep her composure. She wasn't the time to get hysterical. She wasn't drowning: she was in a bubble that was keeping the million gallons of water from crashing down on them. From her quick look around she noticed that she was in a city. An underwater city... how ironic that she would be nearby one when she had been fascinated about one back home. If she wasn't trembling and trying to keep her cool she would be absolutely fascinated about the underwater city.
She thought about the city for a moment. Maybe if she made her way there she could figure out where she is. That is... if this wasn't all just a terrible dream. The half-elf kept her eyes closed for a bit longer as she hoped that this was all just a dream.
After a few moments she opened her eyes. Nope. She's still soaking wet and water is still surrounding her.
Slowly, she makes an attempt to get up. She was still trembling and was starting to feel sick to her stomach. She paused, noticing a mark on her hand. That wasn't there before...
The next thing she noticed was the communicator. She gave up trying to stand up and she then picked it up. Perhaps this might be of help... if she could get her mind straight that is. It's not often that her mind becomes this hazy but then again... she's never been surrounded by water in which she wasn't drowning...
Slowly, she started to tinker with the communicator as she tries to forget about her surroundings. Easier said than done when someone is soaked in what's also around them.
( There's also this here if you want to see a less horrified Professor. )
